A debt-ridden farmer allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at Bambiha village near here on Tuesday.

A debt-ridden farmer allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at Bambiha village near here on Tuesday.

The deceased, identified as Sukhdev Singh, consumed poison on Tuesday morning. The victim was living at her sister’s house in Rai Ke Kalan for past some time and had taken four acres on lease for cultivating cotton. However, the cotton crop was damaged due to whitefly attack. With losses mounting, he slipped into depression and took the extreme step. The family is under a debt of Rs 3 lakh.

Station house officer, Nandgarh, Rashpal Singh said they had received no information about the suicide.
