A decade after Randeep Kaur, 45, of Dhol Khurd village was acquitted of murdering her father-in-law in 2008, the court of additional chief judicial magistrate Ravi Inder Kaur has ordered the police to acquire 1.5 acre land of her brother-in-law, who had falsely implicated her in 2005, and pay her a compensation of Rs 20 lakh from the proceeds.
After acquittal, Kaur had filed an application for Rs 10 lakh compensation in an Amritsar court in 2009.
“In 2009 itself, a local court had ordered Randeep’s brother-in-law, Jasbir Singh, to pay her Rs 10 lakh compensation. However, Jasbir had challenged this order,” said Navjot Kaur Chabha, Randeep’s advocate.
“After her father-in-law Gurmangat’s death, his younger son, Jasbir, wanted to usurp his 10-acre farm land. When Rupinder, the husband of Randeep, demanded his share, Jasbir and a few relatives thrashed him, following which he went into depression and committed suicide,” Chabha added.
“Instead of booking Jasbir for attempt to murder, the police had booked Randeep in a case related to her father-in-law’s death,” the lawyer went to add.
“My daughter, Jasleen Kaur, was only 4-year-old and son Robin Singh was only 10-year-old when Jasbir, my brother-in-law, got me booked in the false case of my father-in-law’s death,” said Randeep.
Before her arrest, Randeep approached Chabha. “In January, 2006, we lodged a complaint against Jasbir and three others for abetting Rupinder’s suicide,” she said.
