Dera head exempted from court appearance

Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmit Ram Rahim Singh has been exempted from personal appearance in a case registered against him for allegedly hurting Sikh sentiments. The hearing is scheduled for June 1 in the court of the chief judicial magistrate here.

Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmit Ram Rahim Singh has been exempted from personal appearance in a case registered against him for allegedly hurting Sikh sentiments.

The hearing is scheduled for June 1 in the court of the chief judicial magistrate here.

The application for exemption was filed by the counsel of the dera head on Wednesday on the basis of a hearing pending in the high court in Chandigarh on May 31.

The government counsel said they had no objection if exemption was given to the dera head. Complainant Rajinder Sidhu, in his statement in the court, said if the court thought exemption should be given, he had no objection to it.
