Less than a week after Panjab University (PU) directed authorities of Mai Bhago College for Women, Ramgarh, Ludhiana, not to admit students in BCom first year, the college enrolled six students on Monday.
When questioned, one of the members of the college management said they had not received any orders from the university.
On July 2, in an affiliation committee meeting, the seven syndicate members had forbidden the college from taking admissions for BCom first year, following controversy over termination of four teachers.
The college had recently sacked four teachers, citing their underperformance. However, the teachers in a representation to the PU dean colleges have claimed that they had been giving 100% results, and were shown the door when the time came to regularise their services.
On the other hand, talking to Hindustan Times, Rajinder Singh Mangat, president of college management, said, “The four teachers of BCom were not performing well, as is reflected from the 40% results last year. Moreover, even this year, only 32 of 60 BCom students passed. Therefore, we terminated them and hired five new teachers.”
When questioned about enrolling students in violation of PU orders, he said they would refund the fee of the new students and no more students would be admitted.

{{/usCountry}}It is pertinent to mention here that the college has 70 seats in BCom first year and is charging Rs 22,000 fee.
When contacted, Naval Kishore, PU dean colleges, said, “I will look into the matter and if the college is admitting students in BCom first year, we will take action against them.”
