Devotees throng gurdwaras

Many devotees on Saturday thronged Gurdwaras Fatehgarh Sahib and Jyoti Swarup to celebrate Baisakhi and offer prayers.

Many devotees on Saturday thronged Gurdwaras Fatehgarh Sahib and Jyoti Swarup to celebrate Baisakhi and offer prayers.

Devoteed took holy dips in Sarovars (sacred tanks) and participated in Akhand Paths (48-hour non-stop recitation of Sikh scriptures), kirtans (singing of hymns), and kathas (religious discourses).

Community kitchens were organised. Baisakhi marks the creation of Khalsa Panth by Guru Gobind Singh at Takht Kesgarh Sahib in 1699. It also relates to the start of the season in which wheat is harvested in north India.
