District administration demolishes illegal encroachment

Taking action against illegal encroachment, the Patiala Improvement Trust on Thursday demolished the illegal construction on Patiala-Rajpura road at Chuna Bhatti and took the possession of prime land which had been encroached upon by land mafia and some businessmen.

Taking action against illegal encroachment, the Patiala Improvement Trust on Thursday demolished the illegal construction on Patiala-Rajpura road at Chuna Bhatti and took the possession of prime land which had been encroached upon by land mafia and some businessmen.

When the officials of Improvement trust reached the spot with police personnel to take possession, a huge crowd was gathered at the spot. To avoid any kind of clash or tension between the locals and the officials, heavy police force has been deployed at the place. Taking protective measures the anti-riot vehicle was also deployed at the time of possession.

Registering a protest against the action, the Patiala Beopar Bachao Sangharsh Committee has called a city wide Bandh on Saturday terming it as an one sided action by the administration.

Meanwhile, Gurpal Singh Chahal, Patiala sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) was also present at the time of demolition. He said that "illegal encroachments in the city will not be tolerated at any cost. The action was taken after direction from the court. He said that the prime land which is valued at crores belongs to the Patiala Improvement Trust."
