Himachal Pradesh police brought ray of hope for the Ludhiana police who are still struggling to get a clue in the robbery executed in a Model Town house by police imposters on August 24.
When Himachal police found a mangled Swift Dzire car near Paonta Sahib in Sirmaur district containing police identity card, they traced the car number and contacted Ludhiana police.
On verification, city police found that the identity card found in the car is forged and the address in it was also faked.
The police have been trying to trace the accused whose picture was on the card.
The police also found that the car used in the crime was stolen from a Ludhiana resident a few days before the robbery.
In the heist, five men posing as sleuths of Gujarat police looted 2-kg gold, Rs 10 lakh cash, and two licensed weapons from a house in Model Town area. The house belongs to businessman Raj Kumar Agnihotri, a disciple of controversial godman Asaram.
After executing the robbery, the accused fled to Himachal Pradesh where their car met with an accident near Paonta Sahib, following which they abandoned it. Sources said the police have been suspecting involvement of son of a deceased police inspector in the crime. The suspect was a frequent visitor to Agnihotri’s house. The suspect is already locked up in Ludhiana Central Jail for attempt to murder.
