Dr Surinder Singh, a male gynaecologist at the local civil hospital, was transferred to Bhunga community health centre, after reports of a clash between him and a group of ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) workers, on Friday.
Tension had been building up between him and the ASHA workers for some time, after he had allegedly misbehaved with a staff member, Anju.
“Dr Surinder was not attending to a patient I admitted. When I questioned him, he asked me to meet him privately,” she alleged, adding that the issue was brought to the notice of the employee union, which decided to confront the doctor.
“In the morning, I went inside the doctor's room, while other union members stood outside. I questioned him on his harassment. He was infuriated and slapped me and hurled abuses. When my patient's husband stepped in to defend me, he was also bashed up.”
Dr Surinder Singh, however, refuted the charges and said that he was being victimised.
“I was busy signing some documents when the patient's husband barged in and caught me by the collar. Others also joined me and misbehaved with me,” he alleged.

{{/usCountry}}He claimed that the patient Ashu referred to had had an abortion, but she was insisting on a surgical procedure, which was not required. He added that the patient had been discharged from the hospital on Thursday evening.
“There was no provocation. The attack was pre-planned to humiliate me and get me transferred.”
