Three medicos have topped the Punjab Civil Services (PCS) exam-2013, results of which were declared by the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) on Friday evening.
Boys have outshone girls this time by bagging top eight slots in the merit list. MBBS pass out Anmoldeep Singh (25), a resident of Mansa, topped the PCS exam in his first attempt, while BDS pass out Jai Inder Singh (30), a resident of Ludhiana, secured the second place. Another MBBS pass out Himanshu Gupta (26), a resident of Barnala, has secured the third place.
The exam was conducted for 121 posts, including 23 posts of PCS (executive branch), 10 deputy superintendents of police (DSP), 16 deputy superintendents of jails, 52 excise and taxation officers, six tehsildars, three labour officers and 11 block development panchayat officers. The preliminary test was conducted in March 2014 and the written test was held in October 2014. A total 353 candidates were called for the interview.
Anmoldeep and Himanshu have also appeared for the IAS exam and are waiting for results. Jai Inder Singh was selected in the previous batch of the PCS exams and is serving as the excise and taxation officer in Ludhiana.
Anmoldeep was a meritorious student since his school days. He had topped the state in Class 8 exams and also stood first in the pre-medical test.
"I am waiting for the IAS results before taking a final call on the PCS posting," said Anmoldeep. Jai Inder said it was his third attempt. He was selected in 2012 but did not get a PCS posting due to his low ranking. His wife is also a PCS (judicial) officer.
