President of IMA, Punjab, Dr Manoj Sobti said a case was registered at the Haibowal police station against those who vandalised the nursing home.

The patient, whose condition was serious, could not survive despite the best efforts of the doctors, yet kin of the patient vandalised the hospital and misbehaved with the doctors and paramedical staff, said Dr Sobti.

He added: “If somebody has some complaint against a doctor or a nursing home, he/ she should approach the IMA, as there is a committee at the district and state level to address their grievances.

Moreover, he said, a complaint could be lodged with civil surgeon, or the victim could move to consumer court to get their grievances addressed, but they should not take law in hands.
“The Punjab Assembly has enacted the Prevention of Violence and Damage Property Act in 2008, hence any person committing any bustle in contravention of the provisions of the Act would be liable to punishment with an imprisonment that may extend up to one year, or could be fined up to Rs50,000 or both,” he added.
