Double tracks between Ambala-Chd to become operational by Oct 5

The much-awaited Rs 199 crore project to construct double track railway lines between Chandigarh and Ambala is expected to be completed in the next six months. The project that was started by the railway division in 2001 is expected to facilitate the faster movement of trains. The construction of the 22 kilometers double line between Ambala-Dappar stations has been completed by the Ambala division and the track would become operational on October 5.

The DRM said speed trials at railway lines from Ambala to Ludhiana and Ludhiana to Bathinda are also in progress and the speed would be increased from 110 km/hour to 130 km/hour in coming months. (Representative Photo)

“Keeping in view the rising number of passengers and the need for fast trains, double tracks for three tier traffic between Ambala-Dappar stations will become functional on October 5 and rail track from Ambala to Chandigarh is expected to be completed by the end of April,” Ambala divisional railway manager (DRM) Dinesh Kumar said.

Kumar said only one-way traffic is allowed in single rail tracks and trains have to move slower which consumes a lot of time.

“With the development of double lines, the movement of trains will become faster and save up to 20 to 30 minutes. Two trains can simultaneously reach Chandigarh while fast moving trains like Shatabdi Express can also be ply on the track,” the DRM added.
