Drug peddler jailed for 10 years

The court of additional district and sessions judge Harveen Bhardwaj awarded ten-year imprisonment to Sonu, a resident of Ram Nagar, on Saturday. The court also imposed a fine of `1 lakh on him and, in case he fails to pay the fine, he would have to undergo imprisonment for one more year.

The court also imposed a fine of `1 lakh on him and, in case he fails to pay the fine, he would have to undergo imprisonment for one more year. According to details in the first information report, acting on a tip-off, the city police had put up a naka at the Red Cross Bhawan on May 21, 2011 and signalled Sonu to stop his bike (PB08-AJ Temp-9327). After spotting cops on the road, Sonu had tried to take a U-turn but was nabbed by the cops. The police had recovered 1.1 kg charas from a polythene bag from his pocket. A case under sections 20, 61 and 85 of NDPS Act was registered against him at the police station-4 on the same day.
