Drug peddler out on bail arrested for smuggling poppy husk

Police have registered a case against Prem Singh and four of his alleged accomplices.

The drug peddler was serving 12-year jail term and came out on parole for a few days a month ago. Police alleged that Singh got involved in peddling of psychotropic substances again after coming out from jail.

Dehlon police arrested him on Saturday after seizure of 330 kg poppy husk packed in 11 sacks, while his four accomplices fled the spot.

Those who fled were identified as Charanjit Singh alias Channi alias Bittu of Talwandi Chaudhriyan village in Mehatpur area of Jalandhar, Karnail Singh alias Kaili of Boote Diyan Challa village in Mehatpur, Atar Singh of Mallanwal village in Makhu area of Ferozepur and Darshan Singh alias Satnam Singh of Talwandi Nobad village in Jagraon.

The police official said a manhunt had been launched to arrest the absconding accused.
