Dry day orders violated; seven arrested

The observance of dry day on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was reportedly violated with impunity in industrial town Mandi Gobindgarh on October 2.

The observance of dry day on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was reportedly violated with impunity in industrial town Mandi Gobindgarh on October 2.

The Mandi Gobindgarh police have arrested seven persons for violating district magistrate's orders. A case under Section 188 of the CrPC was registered against these persons who were selling liquor despite the order.

A team led by CIA, Sirhind, led by Gurmeet Kumar raided liquor stalls in Mandi Gobindgarh around 8 pm and arrested Vikram Singh, a resident of Thabla village (Rajasthan), Narinder Kumar of Ambala, Anup Singh of Kushara village (Himachal Pardesh), Ram Singh of Dloh village (HP), Sipahi Lal of Simi Sogh village (UP), Guni Chand of Sarka Ghat village (HP) and Tejpal Sharma of Dosma Kot village (Nepal).

Gurmeet Kumar said, "We have arrested these persons from four liquor shops. Later they were released on bail. Dry day has been observed across the country since Independence; on Gandhi Jayanti venerating Gandhi, who opposed consumption of liquor and other intoxicants.
