As the Supreme Court direction of fixing the number plates on all vehicles in the state before August 31 looms close, a heavy rush of applicants can be seen at the DTO.

The transport office has increased the counters for HSRPs and manpower to handle the heavy rush of visitors and the process to apply for HSRP will also be online soon.

Fearing challans by the transport department after August 31 for not having HSRP number plates, around 1,400 to 1,500 applicants submit their applications for HSRPs at the DTO daily which creates chaos for the department.

District transport officer RP Singh said there was no need to panic as the transport department would not issue challans after August 31. He added there were speculations that the deadline would be extended but no official word had been received from the higher authorities yet.

"We increased the manpower and now eight people will deal with the public at six HSRP counters. This will help divide the workload and provide relief to applicants as well as officials," he said.
