Now, applicants for a driving licence, including learning, can fill the online form at the state transport office website, Sarathi.

It was announced by state transport secretary Anurag Agarwal on his surprise visit at the district transport office (DTO) here.

In due course, the issuance of licence will be simplified, made transparent and hassle- free and it will be given to the applicants at the DTO office from next month.

According to the department's plan to introduce e-services at the DTO office across the state, applications for a licence can be submitted online and the required fee paid through net banking.

Aggarwal said the transport department is all set to launch the online application system that would offer to apply online from anywhere to get the licence; only two visits to the DTO office would be required for applicants -- for verification of documents and to collect the licence.

He said the dealer would give the provisional registration certificate (RC) to the applicant at the time of fixing the number plate on the new vehicle and the applicant could get the original RC within two weeks.

Aggarwal said the technical changes in the department would help reduce the burden of the department and also facilitate the common man in getting the work done easily by following simple steps.
