The ambitious ‘e-district’ project of Punjab has entered the second phase with its implementation across the state in providing varied citizen-centric services at the sub-divisional level.

After the success of a pilot project under its first phase in Kapurthala and Nawanshahr districts, the project has now entered its second phase under which the required IT infrastructure of more than 2,000 desktops, 1,200 network printers, 1,400 scanners and other basic infrastructure had been provided across 959 locations covering 1,500 offices at district, tehsil and sub-tehsil levels across 20 non-pilot districts as well, keeping a target of April 2016 to cover the entire state, a spokesman said here on Friday.

All these offices had been provided internet connectivity and more than 9,000 officials had been trained as part of capacity building for efficient services to citizens under the project, the spokesman added.
