The Election Commission of India (EC) on Tuesday ordered repoll at eight polling booths in four assembly segments falling under Gurgaon parliamentary constituency.

Chief electoral officer, Haryana, Shrikant Walgad said polling at these booths would be held from 7am to 6pm on May 15 (Thursday), a day before the counting. Of these booths, there is one each in Sohna and Punhana assembly segments and three each in Nuh and Firozpur Jhirka segments. With this order, the model code of conduct has again come into force in its entirety, he added.

Though Walgad refused to specify on whose complaint(s) the EC had ordered the repoll, it is learnt that the same was done on complaints about rigging, lodged by BJP candidate Rao Inderjit Singh and Aam Aadmi Party nominee Yogendra Yadav. It was also not clear why the EC had taken more than a month to decide on the repoll as the complaints had come immediately after polling on April 10.

Walgad said the polling booths where the repoll would be held were the following: booth number 126 – Government primary school, Bawala village (left room), Sohna assembly segment; No 44 – Government middle school, Rehna village (left room); No 46 – Government primary school, Tapkan village; and No 103 – Government primary school, Majra Bhandgaka village (all three in Nuh assembly segment); No 34 - Government middle school, Banarashi village; No 101 - Government high school, Nimkhera village; and No 166 - Government primary school, Shahpur village (all three in
Firozpur Jhirka assembly segment); and No 90 – Government middle school, Thek village, in Punhana assembly segment.

Walgad said the voter lists had been supplied for these booths and people could cast their votes with voter identity cards or other relevant documents on Thursday. Adequate number of companies of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) as well as the Haryana Armed Police and the district police would be deployed, he said.

Meanwhile, questions were being raised over the convening of the cabinet meeting by chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Wednesday as its decisions could influence voters. When asked, Walgad said he had informed the government about the repoll and the code of conduct and now it was the government's call.
