ED grills Phillaur’s son for five hours

He was grilled for more than five hours. He had appeared before ED on June 24.

Damanvir had earlier evaded four summonses by the enforcement directorate to join the investigation.
On Monday, Damanvir reached the ED office at 9.55 am and came out at 3.46 pm. He, however, did not respond to mediapersons’ questions outside the office. Sources said the officials questioned Damanvir about his alleged links with the Gaba family.

Damanvir’s father Sarwan Singh Phillaur is learnt to have good terms with Chuni Lal Gaba, a Goraya-based businessman who is now in the custody of the Patiala police. Moreover, the ED is also scanning business dealings between Damanvir and Gaba’s sons Gurmej Singh Gaba and Gurjit Singh Gaba, alias Monu.

Damanvir had submitted details of his family’s income sources during his first appearance on June 24.
Damanvir was issued the first summons in February this year after Jagdish Singh Bhola named him in the drug racket case.

Following reports of the alleged involvement of Phillaur’s son in the Rs 6,000-crore synthetic drug racket, CM Parkash Singh Badal had asked the minister to resign on moral grounds on May 22. Damanvir is also the senior vice-president of the Youth Akali Dal.
