Employees on warpath with Powercom

Negotiations with the management failed, various Powercom employee associations on Wednesday protested on Wednesday outside the electricity corporation headquarters here.

On the call of the PSEB employees joint forum, members of the PSEB employees federation, technical service union, ministerial service union, and workers' federation participated in the agitation and burnt an effigy of the Powercom management.

Employee leaders Karamchand Bhardwaj, Surinder Singh, Jagtar Singh, and Manjit Singh Chehal charged the management with being anti-worker. "In spite of several assurances, the PSPCL management has failed to resolve our issues related to pay commission, arrears, transfer policy, recruitment of workers and linemen, and privatization of the power corporation," said Bhardwaj.

The unions accused the mismanagement of working under political pressure, and said that was to blame for its debt of Rs 24,000 crore and pending bankruptcy. Bharadwaj said almost 90% of the Powecom empolyess were on protest throughout the state.
