Estate office asks edu dept to file report on enrolment of EWS students

With an aim to book schools that do not admit students from economically weaker sections (EWS), the assistant estate officer and sub-divisional magistrate (SDM central), Prince Dhawan has directed the 27 aided schools that were issued show cause notices to submit details of the EWS students registered on their rolls along with supporting certificates.

With an aim to book schools that do not admit students from economically weaker sections (EWS), the assistant estate officer and sub-divisional magistrate (SDM central), Prince Dhawan has directed the 27 aided schools that were issued show cause notices to submit details of the EWS students registered on their rolls along with supporting certificates.

In another major development, he also issued directions to the director public instructions (schools) Rubinderjit Singh Brar to conduct inspections in these schools to verify the enrolment details. UT estate office had issued show cause notices to the schools that had not filled the requisite number of EWS seats under the administration’s land allotment scheme for which they have been called for a hearing on Thursday.

The estate office has asked the education department to submit a detailed report of each EWS student within a month.

Prominent schools

The schools that have been asked to submit details about admitted EWS students are Stepping Stones School, Sector 38; St Kabir Public School, Sector 26; Ryan International School, Sector 49 and DAV Public School, Sector 8.

Some of the schools that had been issued notices under rule 20 of the Chandigarh Lease Hold of Sites and Building Rule 1973 include Shishu Niketan Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 22; Shishu Niketan Model School, Sector 8; Strawberry Field School, Sector 26; Ashiana Educational Society, Sector 9; Kids-R-Kids International Educational Trust, Sector 42 among other prominent schools.
