Launching the campaign for wife Preneet Kaur at Patiala, former chief minister and Congress candidate from Amritsar, Captain Amarinder Singh on Sunday said that every vote for the Aam Aadmi Party was a vote to the Badals.
“If you are voting for AAP, it will give direct benefit to the Badals. Do you want to give them another chance?” asked Amarinder.
He was addressing a public rally at historic Qila Chowk in the Patiala assembly segment from where he is an MLA. Large gathering of public raised slogans “Maharaja Amarinder jindabad” to welcome him as he reached the venue two hours behind schedule. Amarinder’s daughter Jayainder Kaur was also standing in the crowd.
However, Congress MLA Brahm Mohindra and former mayor Vishnu Sharma were conspicuous by their absence.
With the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) eating into its votes, the Congress leader in his speech stressed that public should vote for the Congress to teach a lesson to the Akali Dal for their failures.
“What is AAP? It’s a movement against corruption. Send me and Preneet to the Lok Sabha, we both will ensure a stringent law against corruption”, he promised.
“AAP candidate Dr Dharmavir Gandhi is a good person. He is great social workers and he should continue with his social work. However, politics is a different domain. Thus, give respect to Dr Gandhi and vote to the Congress as every vote to AAP in Punjab is vote for the corrupt SAD-BJP regime”, he said.
As he is contesting from Amritsar, Amarinder give a clarion call to workers that: “Don’t worry for Amritsar, I will surely win. But in my absence take care of Patiala, as we not only have to retain the seat but to increase margin also”.
During his speech, he took several digs at Bikram Singh Majithia and Arun Jaitley. He said the misrule of the Akalis had ruined the state in the last seven and half years and its time to teach them a lesson. “And its you—the voters—who will teach the lesson to this non-performing government”, he said. On Narendra Modi, he said :”I would have quit the post of chief minister, if Godhra like communal incident had happened in Punjab in my regime. However, shameless Modi stuck to his post. Such communal person does not deserves to be PM. So vote for the Congress to save the country from communalminded Modi”.
In her address, Preneet Kaur said that entire Patiala was my family. “I am married here and I am your daughter-in-law. So vote for me”, she said to strike a chord with Patiala voters.
