A 42-year-old woman alleged that her former paramour not only confined her, but also raped and thrashed her.

The accused has been identified as 45-year-old Baljit Kumar of Jawand Vihar. The victim also alleged that Kumar's brother-in-law Bobby helped him in the crime.

In her complaint, the victim stated that she got married in 1992, but divorced her husband in 2003 and has four children from the marriage.

She alleged that she came in contact with Kumar who was his neighbour and they got into a relationship. She said the accused established physical relations with her for at least eight years and later dumped her.

She further alleged that the accused called her up on Thursday and asked her to come at the railway crossing in the Peeru Banda area on the pretext of reviving their relationship. The woman alleged that when she reached there the accused made her sit in his car and took her to an unidentified place. The accused allegedly confined her in a room and thrashed and raped her.

The Salem Tabri police have registered a case under sections 376 (rape), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian penal code against the accused.

The station house officer of the Salem Tabri police station, inspector Maninder Bedi, said the police have launched a manhunt to arrest the accused.
