Ex-Punjab minister Khushal Bahl dies at the age of 87

Veteran Congress leader and ex-Punjab minister Khushal Bahl, 87, died of cardiac arrest at his residence in Gurdaspur in the wee hours on Sunday. He started his political career as a student leader at FC College, Lahore (Pakistan).

Veteran Congress leader and ex-Punjab minister Khushal Bahl, 87, died of cardiac arrest at his residence in Gurdaspur in the wee hours on Sunday. He started his political career as a student leader at FC College, Lahore (Pakistan).

He became president of Gurdaspur municipal council in 1966. He was elected MLA from Gurdaspur assembly constituency in 1972, 1977, 1992 and 2002 and remained minister in the governments headed by Giani Zail Singh, Beant Singh, Harcharan Singh Brar and Capt Amarinder Singh.

He held the portfolios of medical education; industrial training; jails, Labour and employment; higher education and school education.

Khushal Bahl is survived by three sons Raman Bahl, Aman Bahl and Ajay Bahl.
