Failed theft bid at Ludhiana bank: Accused remained inside bank for 28 hours

Shimlapuri SHO Sanjiv Kapoor said, “During interrogation — two accused Guddu Rajat and Niranjan Nishar, who were arrested on Wednesday late; and Dilshad and Udesh, who were caught on Monday — confessed that they wanted to loot the ATM only. They claimed that they were aware that banks deposit all cash in coffers and they won’t be able to cut it off.”

“The accused went outside from the passage, they had made after breaking the window grills, to bring food for themselves. They told police that conspiracy was the brainchild of Niranjan Nishar,” the SHO said.

“They also told that they barged into the bank on Saturday evening after cutting of the window grills, as they were aware that nobody will turn up there on Sunday and they will have adequate time to execute the robbery. They had planned to loot ATM for money and they felt that entering the ATM cabin inside the bank will be easy, as the ATM remained closed after 8pm,” the SHO said.

“Meanwhile, the watchman heard some voices while patrolling and informed the police,” he added.

“All accused work at a nut-bolt manufacturing factory. They hatched conspiracy to earn money over night,” the SHO said.
