After the last state elections, the police, at the behest of Akali leaders allegedly, had gone on an offensive against Congressmen, Sodhi claimed and added he had a list of "victims" to prove his allegations.

On Wednesday, a prominent rice-mill owner of Guruharsahai, said to be close to Sodhi, was charged with misappropriation of paddy that belonged to the government. "I will take the matter of atrocities on Congressmen at the hands of leaders of Shiromani Akali Dal with Union home minister P Chidambaram," said Sodhi. "I will ask him to prevent the misuse of power in the state."

Denying charge of political vendetta against Congressmen, senior superintendent of police Hardiyal Singh Mann said two cases against the Guruharsahai rice-mill owner related to embezzlement of paddy, and were based on a thorough police investigation made on the complaint of procurement agencies concerned.
