Farmers educated on agricultural techniques

Agricultural experts today educated area farmers on the use of technology in agriculture and provided scientific tips for ensuring a better yield at a Kisan Mela held under the ambit of Agriculture Technology Management Agency.

Agricultural experts on Wednesday educated area farmers on the use of technology in agriculture and provided scientific tips for ensuring a better yield at a Kisan Mela held under the ambit of Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA).

Farmers from across the district thronged the fair, which was inaugurated by Kapurthala deputy commissioner Alaknanda Sayal, to get the latest knowhow and first-hand experience of new innovations.

Speaking on the occasion, agriculture department joint director Dr Gurdyal Singh advised the farmers to conserve water in view of depleting underground water level in the state.

"The better we preserve nature, we will be able to get better yield. Farmers should remain in touch with agriculture department without any hesitation to learn modern ways of irrigation and agriculture," he said.

Kapurthala chief agriculture officer Dr Manohar Singh asked the farmers to shun the traditional paddy-wheat cycle. "There are so many other alternatives available for them to earn money and the agriculture department is also offering subsidies on many products also," he revealed.

In the Kisan Mela, stalls were put by animal husbandry and horticulture departments as well as companies dealing in agriculture-related products.
