A 36-year-old married woman has alleged her father raped her around four months ago and she was expecting a child now. The woman, a resident of Budhlada sub division,had earlier complained to SSP Bhupinder Singh Khattara regarding the same. The father of the complainant was arrested on Monday from Mansa and an FIR under Section 376 has been registered against him.
According to Investigating Officer (IO) Jaswinder Kaur, the complainant said that after she got married, her father sexually assaulted her on more than one occasions. When she visited her parents around four months ago in Mansa, she alleged her father raped her and she became pregnant.
The victim has also mentioned in the FIR that her younger sister, who was married and aged around 27 years, committed suicide in May as her father had also allegedly raped her. She claimed she opposed her father's move when she was sexually assaulted for the first time.
The police claim the accused has confessed his crime and expressed regret over the same. "He was suggested by some godman to have a physical relationship with his daughters to ensure they have a prosperous and happy married life thereafter. He has expressed remorse over his actions," said ASI Jaswinder Kaur.
On being asked whether the police would investigate the suicide of the victim's younger sister, the IO said, "That case is already registered in Bathinda police station. Only after further investigation in the case, we can ascertain anything."
