As the festive season brings chaos, the municipal corporation (MC) is adding to it by carrying out recarpeting of roads across the city. The carpeting is being carried on at Sectors 35, 37, 38, 41, 48 and Dhanas.
On the road that divides Sector 37 and 38, one side has been closed for maintenance and commuters have no option, but to clog the single side. Traffic police presence is minimal, meaning that it takes at least half an hour to wade through office traffic.
During the office hours, serpentine queues can be seen, and commuters slug it out on the roads. People throng the city markets to pick up goodies just before the ‘festival of gifting’, jam-packing the markets , half of which are blocked by tents put up by the shopkeepers.
The shoppers or the commuters give two hoots to the advisory by the police to park the vehicles in schools near the markets.
The vehicles can be seen lined up across the city roads as people go out to shop.
Raman Goyal, of Sector 35 said, “There is rush of shoppers during festivals and the MC is adding to the chaos by carrying out recarpeting. They could have delayed the exercise by another week.” The MC authorities say that the carpeting is going on in at least seven other Sectors.

“The MC has started re-carpeting work over the past two weeks as councillors aim to beat the code of conduct that comes into effect from November 15,” a source said.
