The deadline for completing the hostel was July 31, but the public work department handed it over to the officiating principal of the school almost after three weeks. The PWD has completed the hostel is a time period of five months.

Talking to the HT, officiating principal Anoop Kumar Passi said, “We have shifted the students to their respective hostels. Women security guards have been deputed at the girls’ hostel and no male will be allowed to enter its premises. The students have been directed to wash their clothes and we will be hiring ‘dhobis’ for ironing of clothes.”

“We have received the directions from Punjab Society for Promotion of Education for Poor and Meritorious Students project director Major General KAS Bhullar (retd) and we have circulated the same to the teachers, students, parents and the security guards,” Passi added.

Passi said, “The mess contract has been extended up to September 30, as the centralised contract is yet to be finalised. A proper canteen and a tuck shop will shortly be opened and the canteen contractor will be directed not to sell junk food. It will only keep Verka products.”

He said regarding the telephone facility, they had received directions from the project director to install two telephone sets, one for the school and other one for the hostel. “Hostel number can be given to the parents for incoming calls,” he said, adding that they had been directed to inform the project director by August 25 if they didn’t get a phone connection or the internet facility.
