“We need to know if there was any foul play,” Makkar said here, asking the local gurdwara management committees to take steps to avoid these incidents.

In this context, he insisted on regular inspection of the electrical systems and installations in all shrines to prevent fires because of short-circuit.

Brisish Sikhs meet Akal Takht jathedar
Members of the UK Sikh Council on Saturday met Akal Takht jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh on issues concerning “rehyat maryada” (traditions and tenets) to be followed in gurdwaras.

In the meeting at the SGPC headquarters here, committee’s secretary Roop Singh and council officials Balwinder Kaur and Gurmail Singh participated. The council gave feedback to the jathedar about problems in implementing the Akal Takht “rehyat maryada” rules abroad. It, however, agreed to get it implemented in all Sikh shrines in the west.

The jathedar agreed to raise some of the issues with Singh Sahibs (high priests) and convey their decision to the council.
