A resident of Chack Khas village near Jaintipur was seriously injured when a group of people led by an NRI allegedly attacked him and opened fire during a marriage ceremony at a local resort on Friday.
As per information, during the marriage ceremony of Amritpal Singh, a resident of Misharpur, a dispute arose between one Shingara Singh and NRI Gur Lal Singh.
The verbal duel turned violent and both sides attacked each other with chairs and tables.
In the meantime, Gur Lal Singh left the marriage venue only to turn up with a pistol. He allegedly fired two shots at Shingara Singh who fell on the ground.
The NRI allegedly also fired at Shingara Singh's sons, Manpreet Singh and Gurmukh Singh, who were also present on the spot. However, they managed to escape.
Soon after the incident, Gur Lal Singh fled the spot with his companion, while Shingara Singh, Manpreet Singh and Gurmukh Singh were rushed to civil hospital, Batala, where doctors referred Shingara Singh to Amritsar seeing his serious condition.
When contacted, Batala SSP Tulsi Ram said police were investigating the matter and had sent a team of officials to Amritsar to take the statement of the victim who was undergoing surgery at a private hospital.

{{/usCountry}}The SSP added that during preliminary investigations, it was learnt that Gur Lal Singh who allegedly fired at Shingara Singh was a NRI. To foil his attempt to flee India, police have issued a lookout notice to various airports along with his details, the police officer said.
