Kapurthala district police on Friday booked five persons on charge of defrauding an NRI by taking possession of his property in his absence.

Police sources said that Lakhwinder Singh, a German-based NRI, had submitted his complaint that his brother and four others had opened the locks of a property in his possession in Phagwara.
"When I returned from Germany, I noticed that my brother had taken possession of the whole house, of which we were joint owners. I was holding the possession of 2/3rd area as per the registration deed," he alleged.
After preliminary inquiry by SP Pushkar Sandal, a case was registered against Lakhwinder's brother Manjit Singh, his sister-in-law Harinder Kaur, Raj Kumar, Kuldeep Singh and Hardeep Kaur, all residents of Phagwara, at NRI police station under Sections 380, 448 and 120-B of IPC.
No arrest had been made so far, police sources said.
