Fog claims one life, injures several others in Patiala

A 60-year-old man was killed, while several others were injured in a major accident on the Sirhind–Gobindgarh Road on Thursday morning, due the heavy fog.
Police said more than 25 vehicles, including heavy vehicles crashed into each other on the Sirhind-Gobindgarh Road owing to lack of visibility early morning. The deceased has been identified as Anil Kumar, 60,of Hoshiarpur. He was travelling in an Innova car, with his son and daughter-in-law, when hit by a truck from behind. They were on their way to Hoshiarpur from Delhi.
According to the information, four people were admitted to hospital with severe injuries, while several others with minor injuries were discharged after the first aid.
Sources informed that a swift car was crushed between vehicles in the accident, though the driver and others sustained minor injuries.
The police have registered a case under Sections 279 (rash driving), 304-A (causing death by negligence), of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Sirhind police station.
In another accident in Patiala city, a photojournalist of a local newspaper suffered injuries in his leg and nose as his two-wheeler rammed into a truck stranded in the middle of the road.
