The state forest department is focusing on developing eco-tourism spots in the forest areas of Kullu district, which would not only reduce the tourist rush toward Rohtang Pass on way to the remote Lahaul-Spiti district, but also attract visitors to other scenic places.
Kullu forest conservator Girish C Hosar said, "We have sent a proposal of eco-circuit area development plan to the state government. Under this plan, tourists can enjoy their trip to a particular area, which would connect with a eco-circuit as well."
He said the forest department had selected four eco-circuits under which Bhunter, Garasa, Shondadhar, Diya and Shamshi unit one, Bhunter, Shardhara, Jari, Kasol, Pulga and Kheer Ganga unit two, Saryolsar, Shoja, Jibhi, Banjar and Bandal unit three and Manihar, Sainj, Bhalang and Garasa unit four would be developed as the best tourist spots, where better facilities would be provided for the stay of tourists.
The forest department has included its rest houses under the eco-tourism system in Kullu district, which is getting a good response. It has fixed Rs 750 for reserving a room in a rest house under the eco-tourism plan.
He further said the earned money under the plan would be used for development and renovation of rest houses to make tourists' stay more comfortable.
