Four attack caretaker in attempt to grab plot, arrested

Police arrested four persons for allegedly trespassing on a private property and attacking its caretaker with sharp-edged weapons near the inter-state bus terminal on Saturday. Seven accused managed to flee the spot.

Police arrested four persons for allegedly trespassing on a private property and attacking its caretaker with sharp-edged weapons near the inter-state bus terminal on Saturday. Seven accused managed to flee the spot.

The arrested accused have been identified as Satpal Singh and Janak Raj of Gumti Kalan, Rajiv Sharma and Vimal Kumar of Bathinda. Another accused Paramjit Singh of Sirsa and six unidentified accused are yet to be arrested.

Inspector Beant Juneja, station house officer (SHO), Division Number 5 police station, said Major Surinder Pal Singh Gill of Gurdev Nagar, lodged a complaint that around a dozen persons trespassed on his plot measuring around 2,500 square yards after breaking the gate with the intention of grabbing the land near the inter-state bus terminal.

Gill alleged that the accused attacked his help Shambhu with a sharp-edged weapon and also stolen valuables from his property.

Taking note of the complaint, cops reached the spot and nabbed four of the accused, while their seven accomplices managed to flee.

Gill told the police that the accused had tried to grab his land in 2014 also, and a case in the matter had been registered.
