The injured have been identified as Gurpreet alias Gopa, Kashmir Singh, Nirvail Singh and Deepa and are supporters of both Sham Singh and Manjit Kaur. Sham and Manjit are contesting the village election for sarpanch.

Sources said that both Singh and Kaur are close to the loyalists of former cabinet minister Ranjit Singh Brahampura. Amarbir Singh, a supporter of Singh, alleged that late on Monday night, some supporters of Manjit Kaur were distributing wheat and money to lure the voters to the side of Kaur.

"When our group objected and tried to prevent this illegality, Manjit Kaur's supporters argued with us," he said. Two people were injured then. On Tuesday, the groups clashed again and two more people were injured.

ASI Tejinder Singh, who is investigating the matter, said an Akali leader had offered to mediate between the two groups.
