The municipal corporation, in collaboration with a private telecommunications company – Connect Broadband, started free internet facility for people visiting the MC Zone A office at Mata Rani Chowk on Thursday. The company has installed Wi-Fi routers in the office building.

The facility was formally launched by MC’s officiating commissioner Ghanshyam Thori. While speaking on the occasion, Thori said any person who wants to use this facility will have to type ‘CONNECT’ in his phone’s message box and send it to 9653444555.

Once the SMS is sent, the person would get a username and password. Following this, the user will simply have to connect his mobile phone, laptop or desktop with the Wi-Fi and login by using the username and password. Once successfully logged in, the person can access free internet for a period of 30 minutes.

According to Thori, after the completion of 30 minutes, one can login again by using the same method and the internet facility would start again. He said that the user can keep logging in for as many times as he wants but every username and password will work only for 30 minutes.

Sanjay Behl, marketing head, Connect Broadband, said the firm’s focus was to provide high speed internet to the city residents. He said the company had plans to install Wi-Fi routers in other parts of the city as well and the residents would not be charged for that.
