The Save Men's Rights Association (SaMRA) held a function here on Sunday at Mata Naina Devi Mandir to celebrate International Father's Day.

Speaking on the occasion, advocate Gaurav Saini, state general secretary of the association, dwelt on the importance of a father in the family.

He said, "Indian society and laws have been traditionally biased against a father. A peaceful and progressive family cannot be imagined without a father. A father's contribution should never be underestimated in comparison to that of a mother. Unfortunately, a father remains an unsung hero of the family and society."

The event also highlighted the misuse of dowry-related laws and the domestic violence Act by women to deprive a father of access to his own children.

He said that it was high time that family laws and guardianship laws are amended in a manner that any child is also not deprived of the love and care of his father. The right to custody of a child Act should also be amended so that a father can also claim the custody of a child.
