The ongoing protest of the fisheries students of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary College and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), who are striking against unemployment for the past five days, is getting intensified with each passing day.The students, who are protesting against the Punjab government and GADVASU authorities for failing to get jobs, now say that from Sunday onwards- in a supporting gesture- about 200 students who are putting up in Hostel 3 of the university, will also join the hunger strike.
On the condition of anonymity, inmates of Hostel 3 shared with HT that they had taken a unanimous decision to support these students as “the protest is justified”.
“It is ironical that students are on strike for the last five days and the university authorities seem less bothered, so we have decided to join them from Sunday,” students said, adding their future was in dark due to no assurance from the university- the most worrying thing for them as well as their parents.
“What is the use of a degree if, even after spending so much money on the course, we don’t even get a job,” said a student, adding the state gover nment, which is facing a high-level of brain-drain, was not worried about the future of the students.
Meanwhile, on Saturday afternoon, Ravneet Bittu, member parl i a ment from Ludhiana, during a meeting with these students, was submitted a memorandum that underlined their demands. Assuring them, Bittu said he would help them in the every possible way.

{{/usCountry}}“Rather than addressing our issues, the authorities have put up notices that students on strike will not be awarded degrees and they are planning to take action against us,” said a student, sitting on the hunger strike.
Public relations officer (PRO), GADVASU, Harpreet Singh, said the vice-chancellor VK Taneja was pursuing the matter with the state government and hoped that some concrete solution would be provided soon. He added on the university’s recommendation, the state government had submitted a project worth ` 320 crores to the Centre for strengthening the fish production.
