Accusing city mayor Bakshi Ram Arora of not being serious about the "garbage dump" issue, the local Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) councillors led by senior deputy mayor Avtar Singh Truckanwala have demanded that MC general house meeting should be called at the earliest.
After holding a meeting with the SAD councillors, the senior deputy mayor said: "The mayor belongs to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the local bodies minister is also from the same party. But it is shocking that the BJP instead of getting the "garbage dump" issue resolved is busy in playing politics."
The issue should be taken up at the MC general house meeting on a priority basis as the garbage stench continued to trouble residents. It seemed as if the BJP was not worried and running away from responsibility, Truckanwala said.
The Akali councillors further alleged that the BJP was ignoring the works of Akali Dal in the corporation. The senior deputy mayor claimed that a meeting of the BJP councillors was called on Wednesday in which the Akali councillors were not invited.
BJP says, Akali Dal must tell where to throw 600 metric tonne garbage. Coming back at the alliance partner, the BJP leaders led by district BJP chief Naresh Sharma also held a meeting and questioned the Akali leaders to explain where to throw the garbage.
Notably, SAD leaders have said that they will not allow the Municipal Corporation to throw garbage at the existing dump in Bhagtanwala.
The SAD-BJP alliance is very old. But it is seen that Akali Dal is playing politics on this issue. The garbage is thrown at the existing dump since years. In place of playing politics, the SAD must tell where to throw the garbage now.
Meanwhile, the BJP leadership also backed CPS Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu who came under attack from the local Akali leadership.
SAD leaders had targeted Dr. Sidhu and said that if she was so confident about her performance in the constituency, she can conterst polls again and see results.
BJP local unit Chief backing Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu said that the outburst by Akalis was unfortunate and Dr. Sidhu was hard working leader of the party.
