It's been more than two months since some shopkeepers of the Nehru shopping complex, Lawrence Road, approached the Amritsar improvement trust and gave a representation on the problems being faced by the complex, including filthy conditions.

The complex, which is built on the posh Lawrence Road, is a complete picture of neglect and is in a pathetic condition, mocking at the much-hyped Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan of the government.

These shopkeepers have repeatedly asked for cleanliness in the area as there are huge garbage dumps in the middle of the parking lot as well as inside the complex. The staircases present an eyesore sight.
There are no dustbins in the market, giving the callous people of the city another reason to spread filth all around.

Amritsar is one city where not only the authorities but also the localities are to be blamed for this mess.

The shopping complex presents a shameful sight with garbage heaps in the parking area due to which cars cannot be parked properly which leads to chaos there.

The staircases and corridors present a horrible sight. Stray dogs have become a menace, with their stools littered in the stairs and corridors.

I will ensure that dustbins would be placed in the market in a day or two, but shopkeepers and customers should also utilise the facility rightly.I would pull up sweepers so that they keep the corridors, staircases and washrooms clean.

Municipal corporation is to be blamed for the garbage heaps.The mayor should take interest personally, only the conditions would improve there. I would visit the market and meet the association concerned to resolve their problems soon.
