Guru Jambheshwar University Teachers Association (GJUTA) has demanded probe by state vigilance commission into the alleged scam and financial irregularities in the department of environmental sciences and engineering. Teachers led by GJUTA president Prof NS Malik on Thursday staged a dharna and sought action against the guilty.
Talking to newspersons Prof Malik said, “The department had been issuing ‘pollution-free’ certificates to the industries since 2005. Information gathered by Prof Mukul Bishnoi under the RTI reveals irregularities in the department.”
Registrar RS Jaglan said, “I have received a complaint from three teachers in this regard and have forwarded the same to the chairman/dean for his comment. I am awaiting the reply.”
Prof Malik further alleged that the fee being charged from the industries was not deposited in the university. “More than 10,000 testings of air and water pollution have taken place in the university but no record is now available, according to the reply of the head of the department made to the RTI query.
The proper procedure was never followed and some high officials are also involved in the scam. The probe would reveal the financial bunglings amounting to crores of rupees. The number of students has fallen from 100 to 16 only.”
