The lease of liquor vends expired on March 31 and land rents are paid on April 1 for the period of three months. The rent which ranges from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh has not been paid.

On the other hand, liquor vend owners say, “We have already submitted our files with the authorities. Despite requesting them for depositing our the rent, they are not accepting it.”

When contacted, GMADA estate officer Navjot Kaur said, “We are not taking the rent as decision is being taken to shift some liquor vends. We have received several complaints from residents for shifting vends and hopefully, it will be sorted out soon.”

Another senior official of GMADA said, “GMADA is going to change the site of some liquor vends in Phase 8 and 9. We will be sealing some liquor vends in the city, but have not any decision as yet.”
