Govt announces Rs 1433-crore special package for border districts

Gurdaspur MLA and chief parliamentary secretary for agriculture Gurbachan Singh Babbehali said on Wednesday the Punjab government had announced a special package to upgrade infrastructure in the blocks of border districts in the state.

Gurdaspur MLA and chief parliamentary secretary for agriculture Gurbachan Singh Babbehali said on Wednesday the Punjab government had announced a special package to upgrade infrastructure in the blocks of border districts in the state.

Babbehali said Rs 1433.97 crore had been earmarked for the development of 18 blocks of all six border districts namely Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Fazilka and Ferozepur.

"Under the package, roads will be re-carpeted, facilities for drinking water, sanitation, healthcare and animal husbandry will be upgraded, besides canals, distributaries and seasonal nullahs will be revived," he added.

Giving details of the package, Babbehali said, "A sum of Rs 146 crore will be spent on the development of Gurdaspur, Dorangla and Kalanaur blocks of Gurdaspur district."

"A sum of Rs 140.50 crore will be spent on development works of Ajnala and Chogawa blocks of Amritsar district."

Babbehali said Rs 213.14 crore was being spent to upgrade Ferozepur city, besides Rs 108.82 crore was being utilised to develop the rural areas in Ferozepur district.

He said under the package, Rs 78.07 crore had been earmarked for Bhikhiwind block, Rs 24.42 crore for Valtoha block and Rs 28.57 crore for Gandhiwind block.
