The Punjab agricultural department has failed to issue notification declaring new grain market and vegetable market as main yard, even as market committee had sent a resolution passed in 2009 to the authorities concerned.

Harinder Singh Randhawa, district mandi officer, said he had sent a draft notification to the secretary, mandi board, for approval in 2012 and wrote a reminder last year for speeding up the process of de-notification of old grain and vegetable markets at Nakodar. He said the process was in pipeline.

Market committee officials said without de-notifying the old vegetable market, it would not be possible to shift it to the new grain market.

Nakdoar residents, meanwhile, rued vegetables market had become a nuisance as shopkeepers dump their garbage on the road in front of the main post office.

They said ever rising stink from garbage was troubling hundreds of commuters, who use this stretch, apart from those residing in nearby areas and customers going to post office.
