The director of public instructions (DPI) (schools) is planning to further extend the date for submission of applications for admission to Senior Secondary Residential School for Meritorious Students again. Earlier also, the date was extended till June 30.
The district meritorious school has received a lukewarm response as only 200 applications have been received so far. Of total 1,000 seats available, 600 are for girls and 400 are for boys.
The school is almost ready as fans, tube lights have been installed in the classrooms. However, the furniture is yet to reach the school.
When contacted, district education officer (secondary) Gurjot Singh, said: “We have received a letter from Chandigarh that furniture for the classrooms and offices will be delivered soon. The school is ready and from Ludhiana about 200 students, who have scored above 80% in Class-10, have applied for admission in Class-11. The students will be provided hostel facility.” DPI (schools) Kamal Garg, said: “We have more than 3,000 seats in six meritorious schools in Punjab and 2,300 students have applied so far. I think we will extend the deadline further as some students are still unaware about this new school and its facilities.”
When asked that whether classes would start from July 1 if date of admission is extended as the education department had earlier claimed that the academic session at the school would start from July 1. Garg replied that he could not comment on this. When asked that will the students be allowed to be a day scholar? He replied that they had not received any such requests from students.
