Haryana health minister Anil Vij on Thursday said that with an aim to check female foeticide, the state government was contemplating framing a law under which registration of pregnancy would be made compulsory within first three months of pregnancy.
Presiding over a review meeting of health department here, Vij said that the declining sex ratio was a matter of shame for Haryana and the state government was also seeking legal opinion to take action accordingly if one did not get pregnancy registered within first three months.
It had also been decided to give a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh the person giving information about sex determination cases and those indulging in female foeticide, he said and added that the name of the informer would be kept secret.
Stating that the intelligence wing of the police department would also give its inputs on those indulging in this practice, Vij said inspections would be conducted at all ultrasound centres in the state within next one month by a joint team comprising judicial magistrate, a police officer and a doctor which would check the records of all centres.
