In a statement issued here, HPCA press secretary Mohit Sood said the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the HPCA had approached director general of police (DGP) Sanjay Kumar and various state government authorities to provide security and administrative support for the IPL matches, but they “deliberately” scuttled the request.

The BCCI had written to the DGP on March 14 to get his consent for security as in other states, but the office of the DGP did not reply or deny the request, he said.

“The powers in the government are so jealous and insecure of the success of the game and the infrastructure created under Anurag Thakur, that they are resorting to vindictive tactics by maligning his and HPCA’s reputation to curb the rise of the game in Himachal, which has been firmly put on the world map of cricket,” he alleged.
