Jails and cultural affairs minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur said this on Tuesday. "The Indo-Israel project will give a new direction to diversification of crops. Farmers will also get to use the latest technology of vegetable production,"said Phillaur.

He added that this centre will be set up on a 15 acre land at a cost of `10 crore and more than 70% work has already been completed.

The centre, which is a first of its own kind project in the state, will focus on increasing the productivity and quality of vegetables by using the latest farm technology. Vegetables produced at this centre, will be exported to Europe, US and Middle East countries.

Phillaur said a "high-tech poly house"has been setup on an area of 2000 sq yard to produce seedlings of vegetables having great export demand.

"This centre will also use 'low tunnel technology'. Experts from Israel will provide the technical support for this project,"the minister said.
